"Not a Retreat But a Foward" 2010 Effective Communication Workshop

Saturday's event was an excellent opportunity for students from IUPUI and IU Bloomington to learn and practice some valuable communication skills from experts in the field. The morning began with a session on "What is Effective Communication?" presented by Dr. Carolyn Calloway-Thomas, Department of Communication and Culture, IUB. The next two sessions were lead by Dr. Carolyn Wiethoff, Department of Management/Kelly School of Business, IUB. She focused on "The Process of Persuasion" and "Negotiation: Technique, Training and Tips." The final session of the day was lead by Dr. Nancy Goldfarb, Philanthropic Studies, IUPUI, and was a chance for students to take provided scenarios and put into practice the techniques that they had learned throughout the day.

The day was a fun as well as an informative event, and enabled students to gain new skills and network with one another. Students described the conference as, "A fabulous experience, both enjoyable and informative learning experience" they also said, "It was very informative and beneficial to me in my professional development. I look forward to other workshops!"
